Sore throat or infection in throat can be the bacterial or viral. For proper treatment if the antibiotics are not working, go for culture sensitivity test to know the causative organism and effective antibiotic. You also need differential diagnosis for sore throat and thyroid goiter.

I had the same thing. I don't think it's is cancer, normally you don't get a sore throat with cancer. My dad got cancer and he got dizzy and had balance problems with Cancer in the palms of his hands that spread to his arms and they hoped they could catch it before it hit his neck and throat area. They caught it but he never had a sore throat. As I said I had a sore throat for more than three weeks I would say 2 months, I sucked on cough drops which gave me a lot of tooth decay so use sugar fee if you use them. I went to specialist and no one could figure out my sore throat or my wheeze. It was allergies I finally got on a good mixture of medications and now it is under control. I use Flonase, Singular and inhaler Xopenex I think is the name of that. It's very new on the market. But the doctors didn't think it was allergies either. The sore neck could be something unrelated to the cough. I have had a sore neck for 2 years and found out I had a pinched nerve in my neck. So I am on Work mans Comp and have had to undergo a lot of test etc. The doctor felt the back of my neck and it was sore so he told me to massage it for now until they try to get me a neck injection to block the pain from that one area. How old is your friend. He may want to try a Chiropractor, Mine helped me so much, just one adjustment and I had at least 80% improvement even with the pinched nerve. It is kind of trial and error with a neck problem. But a Chiropractor can get rid of things like sore throats and necks just with an adjustment maybe 2 times a week for 6 weeks or less. Hope this helps a little. I know everyone is different. Good Luck
