Cold sores are painful small blisters filled with fluid which appear on mouth, lips, chin and nose. These sores are caused by a virus called herpes simplex and the condition is also called oral herpes. These sores don't appear inside mouth. There are 2 types of herpes simplex virus i.e. HSV 1 or HSV 2 which are transmitted by direct contact with lesions of infected individual. There are no treatments of herpes but symptoms can be managed. That is why herpes can reoccur. Oral herpes has a cycle of 2-21 days after which sores disappear.
