Sexually transmitted diseases can be bacterial, viral, fungal, protozoan and parasitic. Metronidazole can not cure all sexually transmitted diseases. It can treat protozoan infection and some bacterial infection especially anaerobic bacteria. Viral STDs and few bacterial STDs can not be treated by metronidalzole. There are no cure for viral STDs like herpes and HIV. Bacterial infections can be treated by antibiotics.
