Early diagnosis of dementia is possible by using various means and the simplest way are looking for the signs of memory deficits when the patient is examined or getting information from the relatives. The symptoms of dementia are more related to the behavior rather then the structure of the brain and the CT scan will give information about the structure of the brain. The CT scan only helps the doctors differentiate between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia that affects the vessels and therefore can not be used to determine early stage dementia presence. The CT scan results can also be inconclusive as it only shows changes in structure while it is not necessary that people with dementia may have proper structure. CT scans are not an early stage diagnostics tool but are used in later stages.
