Strept throat is the culprite that has the white spots causing pain when you are swallowing. It to will be reddened and swollen. Tonsilits is a reddening of the tonsels. If you have strept throat you need to be on antibiotics or it will spread to the other side and down your throat, then your in trouble. Keep in mind that the strep bacteria is contagious. You may want to gargle with salt water to ease up the discomfort.
