Liver cells contain enzymes which are released into the blood when they are damaged. An alcoholic binge will produce this, as well as damage by viruses or chemicals. The most common disorders of the liver are hepatitis and cirrhosis. Primary cancer of the liver is relatively rare. Other test can determine the diagnoses.
