Hypercapnia basically is a condition in which there is excessive carbon dioxide in the blood. Carbon dioxide generally is a gaseous substance of the body's metabolism and is frequently released from the lungs.

Hypercapnia is cause because of hypoventilation, lung disease or reduced consciousness. It can also occur due to exposure to surrounding which have high levels of carbon dioxide present in them, and also because of re-breathing exhaled carbon dioxide. Indication of premature hypercapnia, where major carbon dioxide pressure is raised comprise of flushed skin, high pulse rate, muscle twitches, hand flaps and at times high blood pressure level.

During acute hypercapnia, symptomatology leads to perplexity, fright, hypertension, seizures, coma and in the end death. There are many different reasons because of which carbon dioxide is not expelled completely.

My mother's carbon dioxide level is between 60 and 66. She is 83 is there anything that can be done?
