Patients with Bulimia can ruin their teeth from the acid in the stomach contents they are vomiting.
Patients who overuse laxatives can lose very important electrolytes that can cause their heart to stop and they can die. Potassium is a very important electrolyte. Also the heart is a muscle and when the patient with a eating disorder doesn't eat enough protein, the body will turn to the muscle in the body to get protein, causing a heart attack that can kill.
I've taken care of eating disorder patients and it is so sad to see them die after we have worked so hard to help them overcome this devastating disease.
