70 per cent of the subjects with liver cirrhosis suffer from enlarged parotid glands; this is usually attributed to fatty infiltration since liver's ability to break down body fat is reduced in cirrhosis. Also hypertrophied parotid glands are believed to be a compensation mechanism for the impair digestive function of cirrhotic liver. The hypertrophied  parotid glands secret more amylase in px with liver cirrhosis
