Pain in knee can be due to over obesity, osteoarthritis, fracture, injury to ligament or bone etc. Sciatica can also cause this pain. Sciatic nerve is largest nerve of our body. Compression of this nerve can cause dull , sharp or shooting pain on one side of the body. Pain starts from the buttock and radiate towards thighs and legs.
In my opinion you should visit a orthopedist for proper diagnosis and treatment which may include x-ray, ct scan or MRI.
