Numbness is abnormal sensation that occur any where in the body. It can be due to nerve damage in the neck or back, herniated disc, lack of blood supply in the affected area, remaining at same sitting or standing position, carpal tunnel syndrome, abnormal levels of sodium, potassium and calcium in body, Vitamin B12 deficiency etc.
Treatment of numbness depends upon underlying cause. So, it will be good to see a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Sounds like you might have a shoulder injury to your rotor cuff or to your nerve being blocked with inside swelling or inflammation. Your best bet is to have an MRI ordered by a physician. If you just have an X-ray it might not show whats really going on.
