How long does it take for the allergy symptoms to go away once you have been on a gluten free diet?

If you find yourself in pain, particularly in the stomach, or find yourself going to the toilet after meals more often than and for longer than you think you should, you may have a gluten intolerance.

Gluten is a protein group found in certain foods such as wheat and other flours.

Other symptoms might include strange rashes and itches without being bitten, a very strong feeling of being over-bloated and confusion and difficulty concentrating.

Beer can be a big problem for people with gluten intolerance because they are consuming huge amounts of it diluted and their body cannot cope with it. This may make some people sick whenever they drink beer (and I don't mean they've just had too much - I mean after one or two pints).

If you think you have an intolerance or food allergy, visit your doctor and ask for a food allergy test.

If you have a gluten allergy, you don't need to worry about tiny amounts of gluten in your diet as long as you feel OK. On the other hand, if you have    several of these symptoms you should not eat any at all for a while and see if you feel better.

I am about ready to turn 50. Probably within the past year or two I have developed a problem with a lot of gas and burping. But I noticed that after being on the South Beach diet for two weeks those symptoms practically disappeared (no sweets or starches). Then I saw Dr. Christiane Northrup on Oprah a couple of days ago and a lady in the audience asked a question about the same thing. Dr. Northrup said it sounded like gluten sensitivity and that she could take digestive enzymes to help. I'm having a hard time pinpointing if that diagnosis and getting more info. Thanks

Can gluten intolerance cause problems in the mouth, sore gums, etc.?

Gluten is in food.  Meaning the allergen is ingested.  Signs and symptoms would be the same as all other allergies.  Including but not limited to GERD, and nausea.
