Being a hair stylist for over 20 years the simple fact is, head lice nits or the eggs can ONLY hold onto clean hair. If you kept your hair slightly dirty (maybe skip a day or two at the max.) the lice nits (eggs) can't hold onto the hair shaft. The natural oils from the scalp are too slippery. You can also use over the counter products like RID to remove the any living head lice that you may have now. Be sure to follow the manufaturer's directions and make sure to wash all items, that you come in contact with, in the hottest water the fabric will tolerate. Good luck.
