I believe it can, my alternative doctor told me that my cysts were caused by 2 different types of herpes, one I contracted from my mother in the womb and the other is the STD kind, but settled in my ovaries. I have never had a genital outbreak, yet I do have very painful cysts that rupture in cycles, meaning that I'll go several months without one and then will have many within a few weeks of each other.
