LAM is a disease which is relatively rare and is known for mostly affecting women. It is caused by when a muscle cell which is rather unusual invades the lung tissue including the airways and the blood vessels. With the passage to time these cells form bundles and form walls around the airways and lymph blood vessels and cause obstructions. After some time these cells may eventually block the air hence making it impossible for the lungs to provide oxygen to the body.
The most common symptoms of this disease are: Shortness of breath at a little exertion in the initial stages but at later stages, there may be shortness of breath even when a person is not moving. Other than that the patients may suffer from chest pain and sometimes they might cough out blood in small amounts.
