There are a number of reasons why people experience a pain on the right side near their hip. The pain could be something as simple as a muscle cramp or a pulled muscle, or it could be something more serious. The most common symptoms of people with pains on the right side of their body, just above the hip are appendicitis, gall bladder problems or liver problems.

Appendicitis is caused by inflammation of the appendix, this should be considered an emergency as the appendix can burst if it becomes too swollen and this can lead to death without immediate medical attention. If a patient has appendicitis the most common treatment is the complete removal of the appendix. This is absolutely fine to do, as the appendix is an organ that is not needed in the current evolution of man.

Gall bladder problems are also very common, the most common of which is gallstones. Gallstones are formed in the gall bladder and are very dangerous in some cases. They can lead to acute cholecystitis, and may cause a secondary infection of the intestinal microorganisms. Pancreatitis and choangitis can be life threatening and are considered to be emergencies, and as such require immediate medical attention. The most common case of treatment is to remove them, and the gall bladder, as most patients can cope without a gall bladder.

There are many types of diseases that can be found in the liver. These include alcohol damage, cancer, cirrhosis, and hepatitis B. Performing liver tests and checking for proteins can diagnose these diseases.

Any persistent pain in any part of the body should be reported to a doctor as soon as possible, so as to establish the cause and the possible treatment thereof.

If you are young, it could just be an ovarian cyst, which is nothing to really worry about. If you drink a lot of alcohol, could be liver problems, and if pain is so extreme, you are screaming in pain, could be appendix.  All depends on level of pain, age, if you consume alcohol, etc.  May even be a pulled muscle, or the way you sleep, do you sleep on that side.  The right is often pulled by carrying something heavy on the left.  Sort of our bodies way of balancing out the weight.  If pain continues, consult you phycician
