Ulcers are little sores, about 1-2 or 3-4 inches in diameter, which are found on the lining of the stomach, the duodenum or sometimes the esophagus. The stomach is a bag of muscle which contracts and expands to mix the food with the digestive juices of the stomach, namely hidrochloric acid and pepsin. When the lining of the stomach or the duodenum is damaged in some part, the stomach starts acting on it in order to digest it as it would the food inside the stomach. This can cause ulcers. Symptoms of ulcer are a burning pain in the abdomen, which gets worse right after a meal or when the stomach is empty. Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, los of weight, fatigue, weakness and blood in stool or vomit are the main symptoms of a stomach ulcer.
