I do not recommend Epsom salts at all for a hemorrhoid. The best remedy I have found is Witch Hazel. It cools the area, and definitely relieves the itching and burning, that go with hemorrhoids. The best part about witch hazel is you can use it as often as you need to throughout the day. It also helps to shrink the area, which is what is needed in order to begin healing.
Also, drinks lots of water (fluids), try not to stand too much, especially in one place too long - this irritates the hemorrhoid and causes it to swell more. Lots of fiber in your diet, helps too! Being constipated is a big reason why you get flare ups!
The over the counter medications do help a bit - I personally prefer one called Anusol - has more pain reliever than others. Stay off your feet if you can.
Good Luck! The witch hazel has been a blessing for me!

Epson Salt is very useful in relieving the muscle pain. However, I am not sure whether it helps in Hemorrhoid pain or not. Here are a few home remedies that will help your daughter in pain:
- Apply Aloe Vera Gel directly on the Hemorrhoids for pain relief.
- Apply Witch Hazel with sterile cotton at least 3 times a day. This will contract the swollen veins.
- Mix a teaspoon of flowers of sulfur with one Tablespoon Vaseline and apply 2-3 times a day.
- Soak at least 4 figs in water. Let it stay overnight and then eat the figs in the morning before you eat or drink anything else.

If you need instant relief, and I mean instant, fill a bath with the hottest water you can stand, and sit in it. Hot water sooths and numbs it instantly.
For long term results, drink a glass of metamucil smooth, everyday. Years ago a doctor told me to do that. It helps tremendously. Not to mention the health benefits of all that fiber!
