The groin area is the region where the abdomen ends and the legs start.  Groin pain is quite common in women as well as men, and is often the result of a groin pull or strain. This pain is sometimes called genital pain or perineal pain and can be the result of many possible reasons. The seriousness of the pain obviously depends on the cause of the injury.

There are many different things that may cause intense pain in the left hand side of the groin, some common causes of lower left abdominal pain or groin pain include diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, left kidney stone, left kidney infection, crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, left ectopic pregnancy, left ovarian disease, and infection of the left fallopian tubes in women.

Diverticulitis is the most common cause of lower left abdominal pain, especially in women over the age of 60. It is usually only found on the left groin but in rare cases in can also occur on the right hand side. It is caused by the out pouching of the bowel like out growing fingers outside the bowel walls. This affects the sigmoid colon and causes nagging pain in the lower left abdomen.

Other reasons may be down to any recent groin injuries. This is more common in athletes and sportswomen and result from the tearing or straining of the groin muscles. An injury to the hip can also lead to groin pain in women.

Femoral hernia is another possible cause for the pain. This occurs in the lower abdomen where a part of intestine protrudes through an opening in the abdominal wall. A painful bulge usually accompanies this or a knot developed by intestines under the skin near the thigh. Groin pain will be a symptom along with fever, nausea and vomiting.

These are just a few of the possible causes of groin strain and a visit to the doctors is essential to get proper professional advice or diagnosis.  The doctor may examine you for groin lumps and refer you for radiological tests to positively determine the cause of the pain.

I have the same awful pain in my left side and it feels internal, like a deep throbbing, burning pain. It is always there to some degree, it never fully goes away. It seems to have times of really bad, debilitating and it even affects my lower back more on the left, but the whole low back is painful. I don't know what it is, female (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovulation), growth of some type, but it really causes me much stress. I have gone to the doctor, and have a normal pap smear, had an internal ultrasound, with no abnormalities in the uterus for my age of 41. I have even had Xrays of my spine, with nothing out of the ordinary for my age. Does anyone know what I am suffering through? What do I need to do? Help...please

This pain can be due to constipation. Because hard stool can damage the walls of intestine and might leads to inflammation and pain. But fur further investigations, an ultrasound is required to know all aspects of pain.

This can sometimes be because of your period but if the pain is sharp it may be an ectopic pregnancy. You should get a pregnancy test soon so if it is you wont get seriously ill.

This pain could be caused by constipation, or you may have a hernia from lifting too much weight, no-one can determine how serious it is until you discuss this with your Dr.

The best thing to do is get a home pregnancy kit to find out if you are pregnant. As far as the pain during sex and in your abdomen, that could mean a multitude of things best determined by a doctor.

For heaven's sake, usually pain is not associated with pregnancy, but a pregnancy test can help you determine. Pain in your right side can be caused by many things, including appendicitis, so don't delay if the pain is acute, or worsens, or you have other symptoms. Get a pregnancy test (home test kits available for under $20) at the drugstore, and usually accurate within 5-6 days of conception-- and/or see your doc at clinic or private practice if pain continues or worsens, and/or if you miss your period.

No, pain in the left side of your stomach is not a sure sign of pregnancy. I agree with most who answered. Get a real test, and see your Dr. If pain persists. Then maybe go to the library and borrow a copy of "our bodies, ourselves", it is all about the female body from birth to menopause and back. That way you will be more informed about the temple that is your body, best wishes to you.
