It is believed that inflammation of the lining of the abdomen lymph nodes is a symptom of MALT lymphoma.

MALT lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma which involves the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, normally of the stomach, but nearly any mucosal section can be badly affected. Gastric MALT lymphoma is usually linked with persistent inflammation as a result of the existence of Helicobacter pylori. The early diagnosis is derived from biopsy of suspicious lesions on esophagogastroduodenoscopy. In other sections, constant immune stimulation is also supposed in the pathogenesis.

If the disease is restricted to the abdomen, then most of the patients will be healed by treatment with antibiotic eradication of H. pylori. On the other hand if the disease has multiplied or has been obstinate on antibiotics, then chemotherapy might be suggested.
