Hydrocodone has multiple side effects but high blood pressure is not one of the most common side effects of the drug.

Hydrocodone is formed from codeine and thebaine and is used to relieve moderate to severe pain and suppress coughing by drying up the lungs so that there is not any access moisture within them that can cause coughing. The medication comes in tablet, capsule and liquid form and is available by prescription only. This drug is not available over the counter.

Hydrocodone changes in the liver of a person, the drug is distributed around the body before this point but the remains that end up in the liver are changed to hydro-morphine. This can make the effects stronger and you should always stay away from alcohol when taking hydrocodone. Always take the drug according to your doctor's advice and the warnings on the label and ensure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients before taking the medication.

Although high blood pressure is not a common side effect of hydrocodone it can cause chest tightness and slow or irregular breathing. If you do ever have any respiratory issues such as a tight chest or irregular breathing, you should contact a doctor or emergency room as soon as possible. Issues with the respiratory system can become very serious in a short amount of time and medical attention is needed urgently.

There are also less serious side effects of hydrocodone;

• Dizziness/Lightheadedness
• Itching/Rash
• Nausea/Vomiting
• Mood changes/Anxiety
• Narrow pupils
• Dry throat

If you do appear to be having a bad reaction to hydrocodone which is not serious, return to the doctor that prescribed the medication as soon as possible and get them to check you over. They may be able to give you alternative pain relief that will not have negative side effects.

You need to correct hyromorphine. The metabolite is hydromorphone (dilaudid). There isn't actually any drug called hydromorphine.
